It?s a sudden turnaround for the former Adine factory in Mayet. Pusterla 1880 plans to shut down operations at its Mayet plant, in the Sarthe department, by early 2027, according to information published by Ouest-France and Le Maine Libre . The facility manufactures boxes, cases, and pouches for the luxury market. Of the 94 employees affected by the reorganization, 51 positions could be eliminated and 43 transferred.
The Italian manufacturer acquired Adine in 2021 and its facilities in Mayet and Nantes, in the Loire-Atlantique department. In 2022, Pusterla further expanded production capacity at its site in the Sarthe department by installing a new production line for perfume boxes. According to Ouest-France , Gucci was one of the factory's main customers.
Production has been transferred primarily to its other Sartoos facility
Pusterla, which operates production facilities in Italy, France, Moldova, England, Scotland, and Tunisia, attributes this reorganization to the deteriorating market conditions and excess industrial capacity. The French management has indicated to Ouest-France " "a particularly challenging market environment, marked by a decline in our economic indicators and industrial overcapacity." The decline in demand from Gucci, the factory's main customer, is reportedly the cause of this downturn.
Mayet?s operations are to be consolidated primarily in Cherré-Au, Pusterla?s second facility in the Sarthe department, located about 70 km away. According to Stéphane Transon, the production director interviewed by the regional daily, the majority of the 43 jobs being transferred will move to Cherré-Au. The remaining positions will be transferred to the company?s third French plant, located in Oradour-sur-Glane, in the Haute-Vienne department.
