Will it soon be possible to use a simple piece of paper or cardboard as a keyboard numérique?? Yes, according to recent research by engineers at Purdue University in Indiana, USA.
The researchers worked on a printing system that can transform any type of paper or cardboard packaging into an easy-to-use numerical keypad or interface.
Printed circuit boards on paper
" ?Nous have developed a method to make paper repellent to water, oil and dust by coating it with highly fluorinated molecules. This omniphobic coating allows us to print multiple layers of circuits on paper without the ink dragging from one layer to the next at suivante?." says Ramses Martinez, Professor of Industrial Engineering at Purdue University.
According to the professor, this is the first self-powered paper-based electronic device, since the superimposed circuit layers are powered by vertical pressure sensors, and the energy is collected during contact between the user and the object.
The results of this research open up new avenues in the development of intelligent packaging and make it possible to envisage new accessories that are very inexpensive and easily replaceable.
Thanks to this technology, simple sheets of paper can also be used as a music playback interface, for example to change the volume as in the demonstration video.
