Paboco's new packaging is distinguished by its lightness: the bottle and cap together weigh less than 16 grams. The use of an HDPE plastic barrier, weighing less than 2 grams, maintains the protective properties while reducing environmental impact. The package is fully recyclable in the same way as paper packaging, offering a practical solution for brands seeking to minimize the use of plastic materials.
Blue Ocean Closures has designed a fiber closure that is compatible with a wide range of packaging materials, helping to broaden the scope for plastic reduction.
According to Ola Tönnberg, CCO of Blue Ocean Closures, the fiber closure is a new standard, applicable to different bottle materials, and we're delighted to be launching it on fiber bottles thanks to our collaboration with Paboco.
The first bottles will be available in early 2025, with presentations at industry events such as CPHI in Milan and Scanpack in Gothenburg in October 2024, enabling selected partners to preview this breakthrough.
With this initiative, Paboco is paving the way for the wider adoption of sustainable and fibrous packaging in industry. It remains to be seen how this technology will evolve to suit other product types and markets, raising new questions about the future of biobased and recyclable packaging materials.
