The Commercial Court of Bar-le-Duc has declared the liquidation of the Stenay paper mill, putting an abrupt end to activity at this historic site in northern Meuse. 130 jobs have been lost. A shock for the families, who denounce the financial management of the Ahlstrom and Accursia groups, accused of having precipitated the closure.

On November 8, 2024, the Stenay paper mill, an industrial pillar of the northern Meuse region, came to an abrupt halt. The compulsory liquidation pronounced by the Bar-le-Duc Commercial Court puts an end to the mill's almost century-long history, resulting in the loss of 130 jobs in an already economically fragile region.

The unions, notably the CGT and FO, point the finger at the financial choices made by the Ahlstrom and Accursia groups, which had taken control of the plant. Union representatives denounce a strategy focused on short-term financial returns, with no consideration for employees or the future of the region. For them, this closure is the culmination of years of purely financial decisions, disconnected from human and local realities.
