Of the 149 proposals put forward by the Citizens' Climate Convention, Emmanuel Macron decided at the end of June to accept 146. These could be put to a referendum as early as next year. Of these 146 measures, two are aimed at banning letterbox advertising by 2021 as well as outdoor advertising.
Reducing over-consumption
More generally, the text of the Citizens' Convention on advertising calls for limiting incentives to consume the most polluting products.
"?Nous want, from 2023, both to ban advertising of the most polluting products (a sort of Evin law on climate) and to regulate advertising in general, in order to redirect consumption towards more climate-friendly products and by putting a brake on surconsommation?", indicates the text.
Advertising exposure supported by individuals
The Convention does not propose the suppression of advertising, but rather an advertising exposure desired by individuals. In order to do this, it proposes to :
" ?Interdire advertising billboards in outdoor public spaces, excluding local and cultural information as well as signs indicating the location of a distribution point.?»
In the same vein, the deposit of advertising in mailboxes would also be banned, starting in 2021. The digital space is also concerned since the Convention advocates a systematic consumer choice "?pour content with limited access between a paid service without advertising and a free service with publicité?".
