An initiative of the Syndicat national de l'édition to boost sales during the holidays and encourage the actors of the book chain.

On the eve of the holiday season, the Syndicat national de l'édition (SNE) is launching a major poster campaign to promote books and reading. This initiative will help bookstores impacted by several weeks of closures. Between the literary awards (delayed this year) and Christmas shopping, it is indeed a decisive period for sellers of cultural goods. The NES points out that books are one of the most popular gifts at Christmas and that sales during this period represent 15 to 20% of annual book sales.

The visual of the poster is adapted from a drawing created by the cartoonist Nob, to support booksellers, from the universe of his flagship comic strip Dad (Éditions Dupuis), explains the SNE. For the deployment of the campaign, JCDecaux has made available, free of charge, its Parisian flagpoles and Morris columns installed in 28 cities. The campaign can be seen in Paris from 30 November to 6 December and then throughout France from 8 to 14 December.

A growing appetite for reading

In addition to boosting book sales and encouraging players in the book chain - authors, booksellers, publishers and printers - who have been hard hit by the crisis, the campaign aims to encourage an appetite for reading, which according to the SNE has been growing steadily in recent months.

"?À Like all those involved in the book trade, the Syndicat national de l'édition is delighted with the dynamic that has seen, since the end of the first confinement, the arrival of new readers in bookshops discovering the joy of reading and the benefits of lecture?" explains the NIS.
