Solopress has installed the Motioncutter 23 laser system from Konica Minolta. The online retailer, which is part of the Onlineprinters group, is the first printing company in the UK to install this digital finishing machine.
The Motioncutter 23 cuts, die-cuts, engraves, perforates and creases paper and cardboard up to 585 x 750 mm in a single pass. Konica calls it "ultra-fast", as the Motioncutter 23 can reach 45 meters/minute.

This first British Motioncutter 23 will be used to manufacture labels for Solopress, which represents £1 million (or ?1.2 million) of the company's £30 million turnover (figures before covid).
The company wanted to increase its production capacity by investing in a laser cutting solution to meet the increased demand. Until now, the company has been using pre-cut, fixed-size labels.
"We can now reduce our inventory while offering our customers more options and choices." says Simon Cooper, Solopress' Managing Director. Solopress can respond quickly to virtually any shape, size or quantity of label request, even for short runs. As a result, the Motioncutter 23 should pay for itself in just 18 months, according to Simon Cooper.
