Spain-based paper group Saica has invested heavily in corrugated board processing machines from manufacturer K?nig & Bauer Celmacch.
Next summer, six new lines will go into production. Four machines from the ChromaCUT X Pro range of rotary diecutters for corrugated board will be installed in England, Portugal, Italy and France (the name of the French site has not yet been announced). Two other machines, Chroma HighTech flexo printing lines, will be delivered to Group sites in Spain.
Several other machines from Koenig & Bauer's corrugated division are already in production at the paper manufacturer's European sites.
Saica particularly appreciates the wide choice of machines from K?nig & Bauer Celmacch. Luca Celotti, Sales Manager at K?nig & Bauer Celmacch, explains: "It's really a great advantage that we have such a wide portfolio of machines with different levels of automation and performance. Our customers contact us and are free to decide which machine model best suits their needs."
The four highly automated ChromaCUT X Pro diecutters are capable of processing corrugated board sheets up to 2.8 m wide and 9 mm thick, at speeds of up to 12,000 sheets per hour.
The two Chroma High Tech flexo printing lines, which handle 2.1-meter-wide plates, allow for plate changes during production, automatic anilox roller changes, and feature Zero Defects technology to eject bad sheets.
One of the two Chroma HighTech models is also equipped with K?nig & Bauer's latest Celmacch technology, for indoor-outdoor printing in a single pass.
Called High Board Line Chroma 2S, this one-step duplex printing system, which can print up to 10,000 sheets per hour, not only increases efficiency, but also considerably reduces production costs, according to the manufacturer.

"We're one of the biggest corrugated board producers in Europe, and of course we want to continue to grow. But at the same time we want to forge ahead in terms of quality and automation at our various sites." explains Hervé Dehaynin, technical coordinator at Saica.
