After several years of inactivity, the former Bègles paper mill is back in action, producing hygiene paper.

Closed since 2021, the former Bègles paper mill is back in business under the impetus of Global Hygiène. Specializing in wiping products, the French group undertook a year-long, in-depth modernization of the Gironde site. Renamed Papeterie de la Lune, the plant, which has already undergone several industrial transformations since its creation in 1928, relaunched production in April 2024 with a first production line for bonded embossed products. The official inauguration last Friday brought together elected representatives, industrialists and employees to celebrate this new phase.

A production tool refocused on hygiene

With a surface area of 48,000 m 2 the site, which employed 90 people in 2021 to manufacture paper for plasterboard, now operates with around ten employees.

Global Hygiène is aiming for annual production of 12,000 tonnes of rolls of hand towels, toilet paper and medical sheets for professional and institutional customers. A second production line is already planned for 2027, according to La Tribune .

Towards an integrated production site

Global Hygiène, with sales of 80 million euros and four production sites, plans to transform Papeterie de la Lune into a paper mill, making it its first fully integrated production site.
