Eight months after signing a $50 million contract with HP, ePac Flexible Packaging has entered into a global partnership with Fujifilm. The U.S.-based flexible packaging manufacturer, which operates more than 50 HP Indigo presses, will integrate the water-based inkjet Jet Press FP790 into its international network.
The first installation of this inkjet press is scheduled to take place at ePac?s new facility in Phoenix, Arizona. Additional Fujifilm presses will then be gradually rolled out to the printer?s various international locations in the United States, the United Kingdom, Canada, Indonesia, France, Austria, and Poland.
Built around on-demand digital printing, ePac's business model is based primarily on short runs and order flexibility. With the Jet Press FP790, the printer aims to handle larger volumes without giving up its on-demand production activities.
This development should enable ePac to support brands whose packaging needs are growing as their sales increase, while maintaining the customization options offered by digital printing.
Fujifilm's Jet Press FP790 prints at a resolution of 1,200 x 1,200 dpi. According to the Japanese manufacturer, its color gamut covers more than 90% of Pantone colors.
The press uses water-based inks suitable for food packaging applications. Fujifilm also notes that it can print on recyclable materials.
