In September 2019, the Finnish paper group UPM announced its intention to sell its Chapelle Darblay newsprint mill in Grand-Couronne, Seine-Maritime (read UPM separates from Chapelle Darblay paper mill ). He had also warned that if no credible offer was received by mid-January 2020, he would begin the process of closing the plant.

UPM announces today that it is in discussion with potential buyers. However, "although these discussions are ongoing, we have so far received no firm offers from potential buyers of the plant."

"Consequently, we have informed employee representatives today of our intention to initiate employee consultation processes with a view to a possible closure of the site." These consultations should be completed by the end of June.

UPM ensures that it remains committed to divesting the mill if it receives a suitable offer.

The paper mill currently employs 236 people and has an annual production capacity of 240,000 tonnes of newsprint.
