LamiBak from Ahlstrom-Munksjö allows the use of non-stick coatings in an all-fibre container for food processing, cooking or serving.

Finnish papermaker Ahlstrom-Munksjö launches LamiBak, a new range of paper-based silicone carriers certified for food contact and baking according to the standards of the German Federal Institute for Risk Assessment (BfR).

These papers are fibre-based substrates for silicone release coatings. Non-stick coatings are used in a multitude of applications, such as liners and face materials for labels, tapes and films, but also in food packaging.

And the end products are often made of several different materials - for example, paper with plastic or foil - which can be difficult to recycle.

In contrast to the usual media, this new range of Ahlstrom-Munksjö products is recyclable while still being compatible with the packaging of food to be served, heated and cooked in conventional and microwave ovens.
And LamiBak L paper can be laminated onto another material (such as flat or corrugated cardboard) to create a stiffer package.

"The use of sustainable materials is increasingly important for our consumers, retailers and brands who are looking for renewable materials and alternatives to aluminium, plastics and PE-coated papers, explains Ludovica Peretto, head of sales and marketing for Ahlstrom-Munksjö's liners. This new product is in line with this trend (...) It gives our customers the ability to exploit opportunities in a wider range of market segments."
