The manufacturer of premium cardboard boxes located in Fougères in Ille-et-Vilaine, Alliora, which has belonged to the Italian group Gpack since 2017, was placed in receivership on 8 July by the Rennes Commercial Court. 9.9 million in 2018 with around forty employees on permanent contracts, is being monitored by a bankruptcy administrator for a six-month observation period.
For employees who feared a compulsory liquidation, the decision was greeted with relief even if the concern remains for the future, reports the Breton newspaper based in Fougères The Republican Chronicle (actu.fr).
Following the example of its parent company Gpack, whose activity has been strongly impacted by the health crisis, Alliora has been idling since its confinement with a declining order book, the newspaper points out.
Manufacturer of boxes for the perfume, cosmetics, wine and spirits and accessories sectors, Alliora has a production capacity of 15 million boxes per year.
The takeover of the plant in 2017 by the Milanese company Gpack was accompanied by a reorganisation of its activity including material investments and a job protection plan.
The company had acquired four machines from the Italian manufacturer Emmeci, enabling it to increase its productivity. At the same time, the social plan had led to the dismissal of some of the factory's employees. To meet peak orders, the company uses temporary workers.
