Benoît Demol, President of Codimag, announced the initiative on his LinkedIn account. The Bondoufle-based company is looking to take over the activities of Smag Graphique, a manufacturer of printing and finishing machines for labels and flexible packaging, also based in Essonne and placed in receivership at the beginning of March by the Evry commercial court.
Codimag's claim to technical complementarity
For several years, Codimag has been developing a waterless offset technology called Aniflo, designed for high-end label and packaging printers. For its part, Smag Graphique designs printing and finishing equipment (gilding, die-cutting, silk-screening or laminating) and achieves annual sales of 9 million euros, almost half of which are exported.
The two companies operate on complementary links in the production chain. Benoît Demol emphasizes the convergence of products, markets and skills. He speaks of the creation of an industrial group capable of better meeting the expectations of the sector, both in France and internationally.
Both companies are located in the south of the Paris region, less than 20 kilometers from each other. Codimag's plan is to maintain its industrial facilities and teams in the region. The aim is to pool skills, consolidate existing services and ensure continuity of customer support for Smag machine users.
Management also indicated that it wanted to formulate a motivating offer for the employees of both companies. No information has yet been released on the possible impact on employment.
A court-supervised procedure
The opening of the receivership proceedings on March 3 set in motion the process of finding buyers. Codimag plans to submit a final offer on May 7. The outcome will depend on the decision of the court, which will have to judge the industrial and financial soundness of the project.
No other candidacy has yet been officially announced.
