To support customers in their manufacturing choices by integrating environmental and cost objectives.

The French manufacturer Verpack, which specializes in the design and production of luxury packaging in cardboard, plastic, tubes and canisters, has announced the launch of its life cycle assessment tool called Ecolab. Developed as part of the group's CSR (Corporate Social Responsibility) strategy, this tool should make it possible to inform customers about the environmental impact of a case or box with the aim of identifying, right from its design, the levers for improvement.

"?Les results obtained allow us to accompany our customers in their choice of design, materials, decors, wedges ..., according to their objectives on the environment and coûts?", explains Géraldine Delaval, the group's CSR manager.

Ecolab's first optimization studies focused on the repackaging of a cardboard case," explains the manufacturer. Changes to the cardboard, grammage, lamination and decoration would have reduced the impact on climate change by 40%.

The tool developed by Verpack is based on the international database ecoinvent, which is the international leader in the field of LCA data. Many parameters are taken into account in the life cycle inventory: energy (fossil or renewable), materials (chemical or natural), waste treatment (incineration, deposition, sanitation, modes of transport).

The tool calculates the impact of the product on 14 identified criteria, such as ozone depletion, climate change, human toxicity or marine and terrestrial ecotoxicity. This study thus enables the brand to make its choices, explains the Verpack group.
