London Underground signage hijacked!

A marketing stunt by Sony. The emblematic red circle with a line through it became a cross, square, and triangle. Can you guess why?

Sony has spared no expense for its latest advertising campaign to accompany the 19 November 2020 release of the PlayStation 5 video game console. The brand collaborated with Transport of London, the body responsible for public transport in the city of London, to redirect signage from the underground.

At the entrances to several stations, the illuminated signs for the city's underground transport - the red circle with a line through it is undoubtedly one of Britain's most iconic symbols - have been modified to represent the buttons on the Plastation's joysticks: the blue cross, the purple square and the green triangle.

The company AJ Wells and Sons, responsible for the manufacture and installation of illuminated signs

The Isle of Wight-based signalling and engineering company AJ Wells and Sons, which manufactures much of the signage for the London Underground, has been commissioned by Transport for London to manufacture and install the four giant illuminated signs in the form of the console buttons, reports the British newspaper Isle of Wight County Press .

These temporary replacement panels, completed in less than two weeks in complete secrecy, were installed at the four tube exits of Oxford Circus station in central London. They will be placed there for just 48 hours before being moved to Sony's London headquarters for a permanent exhibition, the regional weekly said. A poster campaign based on the same concept has also been rolled out in the Underground.
