The employee at the printing plant killed himself near his workplace on the evening of Tuesday, November 17.

A 57-year-old rotatist working at the newspaper printing plant Latest News from Alasace and Alsace killed himself on the evening of Tuesday, November 17. The employee named Didier committed suicide near the printing works premises, on the Broglie car park in Strasbourg, says France Bleu Alsace .

The management of the regional daily has opened a crisis unit and is offering support to the victim's colleagues, family and friends. On Wednesday 18 November, the editions of the Latest news from Alsace were missing from the newsstands because they could not be printed. The newspaper's editorial staff decided to remain silent, and did not mention the drama in its editions.

This is the second suicide of an employee of the Latest News from Alsace in less than a year. On December 5, 2019, a 43-year-old maintenance technician killed himself on the job. The trade unions had denounced poor working conditions at the time.

The Filpac-CGT trade union has published a press release announcing that if for the time being the time is ripe for reflection, the Crédit Mutuel press division will subsequently have to "?rendre account for its inhuman policy based solely on comptables?".

The daily Dernières Nouvelles d'Alsace is part of the Est Bourgogne Rhône Alpes (EBRA) group, which itself belongs to Crédit Mutuel. It is the leading regional daily press group and owns nine regional dailies distributed in eastern France as well as three weeklies and two free newspapers.

"?Restructurations with forced march, printing plant closures (Metz, Mulhouse, Chalon-sur-Saône), massive layoffs are accelerating in recent years and create a climate of anxiety, a daily pressure that is difficult for salariés?" ...denounced the union in its press release.
