Smurfit Kappa enters the German eco-organism market

Smurfit Kappa offers the "only" global offer capable of following the life cycle of paper and cardboard packaging, from production to recycling.

The Irish paper and board packaging manufacturer Smurfit Kappa has set up a company called Recycling Dual, effective from 1 January 2021. This company for the German market offers a comprehensive range of services for manufacturers and brands to optimise the costs and environmental impact of their packaging throughout its life cycle.

"From 2021, Recycling Dual will be the only company on the market that can follow the life cycle of paper and board packaging from production to recycling." assures the group.

Smurfit Kappa designed Recycling Dual to meet the new measures imposed by a federal law passed last year. Since 1 January 2019, companies that put packaging for end-consumers on the German commercial market for the first time must pay for licences for this packaging. This system, known as the Duales System, is similar to the eco-contribution system we know in France. And in 2021, the amount of these licences, which is determined by the weight and nature of the packaging, will rise sharply: around 30% more and up to double for cardboard.

With Recycling Dual, Smurfit Kappa brings together in a single company the development, licensing, collection and recycling services for paper and cardboard packaging. In order to offer this "one-stop shop" to companies, Recycling Dual will work in collaboration with many players, including municipalities and waste management companies.
