The paper-based packaging manufacturer Smurfit Kappa is setting a new benchmark for its TopClip carton packaging system, which replaces the shrink film in can packs. The new packaging system is designed for small beverage brands and has already been implemented by a Czech craft brewery.
Made entirely of cardboard, TopClip is recyclable and has a 30% lower carbon footprint than shrink-wrapped packaging. "Being made from less material and requiring no glue, TopClip is significantly more durable than other similar-use packaging solutions recently launched on the market assures Smurfit kappa, who tackles the American group Graphic Packaging International with its KeelClip solution .
In order to offer it to smaller companies, the manufacturer has developed a new low-speed machine solution up to 1?800 cans/hour.
This packaging was installed in the Czech brewery for 500 ml cans. Ji?í Andr?, CEO of Pivovar Clock, particularly appreciates the ecological aspect of the cardboard packaging as well as its environmental friendliness "excellent consumer and brand experience."
With this launch and the partnership with KHS last year Smurfit Kappa now offers three automation solutions covering all sizes of companies.
