40 million investment in a Smurfit Kappa packaging plant

This would make the site the largest corrugated packaging plant in the UK.

Irish packaging producer Smurfit Kappa, which has 350 production sites worldwide, has approved a ?40 million investment plan for its corrugated packaging plant in North Wales.

The manufacturer wants to increase the production capacity of the plant, which employs 194 people. This would make it the largest corrugated box plant in the UK. These investments will also reduce CO2 emissions per ton at the plant by 15%.

Smurfit Kappa UK and Ireland CEO Eddie Fellows says, " This investment in North Wales will increase our capacity, flexibility and speed of delivery to provide innovative and unrivalled packaging solutions to customers in the UK and Ireland."

The extension of the plant will be perfectly integrated into the landscape, says Smurfit. A natural area of 12,000 m 2 the site will be landscaped with a local stream and a trail that can be used by site staff and local residents. 10,000 trees, shrubs and bushes will be planted. And the land removed as part of the plant expansion will be used by the nearby heritage project.
