Actega launches the world's first soft touch coating for laminated tubes

This new coating provides product protection and a pleasant feel.

German manufacturer of coatings, inks and adhesives for printing and packaging, Actega, is launching the world's first soft touch decorative coating for laminated and extruded tubes. Called Galacryl 89.501.14, the water-based, dual-cure solution protects laminated tubes while providing a peachy feel to plastic packaging.

This effect, used on various flexible packaging, had not been able to be sustainably applied to laminated tubes in production until now. Actega's R&D team was able to solve the durability issues associated with this effect by combining a water-based and environmentally friendly dual-cure coating. The UV-curable Galacryl 89.501.14 provides a slightly white matte finish.

With this coating, the cold and clinical surfaces of plastic are transformed into a warm and pleasant surface. "The soft touch effect on a package is very attractive to the consumer, as it inspires a sense of prestige and quality. It has been proven to improve product engagement and sales." says André Soterio, Actega's EMEA Label Sales Manager. "Replicating the soft-touch effect of rubber, leather or even velvet, this new capability represents an innovative and cost-effective service offering for our customers."

The manufacturer recommends it for packaging in the cosmetics, pharmaceutical, food and household goods industries.
