Kongsberg now autonomous expands into new areas

The manufacturer, which is entering "a new era", wants to offer solutions beyond the packaging sector.

Following its change of parent company, digital finishing machine manufacturer Kongsberg is becoming a stand-alone company and showing its ambitions. The manufacturer of digital cutting and creasing tables, which is now called Kongsberg Precision Cutting Systems or Kongsberg PCS, is entering the market as an independent company "in a new era" .

"This is truly a great day for everyone at the company." says Stuart Fox, president of Kongsberg PCS. "This is an opportunity for the Kongsberg team to realize our ambitions and explore new markets. We will develop strategic initiatives to continue to innovate with our digital finishing hardware and software solutions and advance the Kongsberg brand beyond the packaging industry."

Kongsberg was founded in Norway in 1965. In 1998, it became part of the Esko Group (then called Barco). In last December, its parent company announced the sale of its digital finishing business and as of April 2021, Kongsberg, which has 400 employees, is officially owned by U.S. private equity firm OpenGate Capital.

Kongsberg, headquartered in Ghent, Belgium and now in Ohio, USA, includes a research and development center in Norway and a production facility in Brno, Czech Republic.

And Stuart Fox is already announcing new automation solutions in the coming months.
