3M launches two new film production lines

Silvia Perez, President of 3M's Commercial Solutions Division

3M is investing 95 million euros in its Hilden site to strengthen its graphic communication film business.

Started in early 2019, the work is now complete. 3M has just inaugurated two new production lines dedicated to visual communication films at its site in Hilden, Germany. This plant near Düsseldorf, where 860 people work, is the largest European site of the American group.

Representing an investment of 95 million euros, these new lines should "respond to the rapid growth of the market for 3M Graphic Communication division products." says the group. They add an annual production capacity of 5 million m 2 of films for
vehicle wrapping and graphic films at the German site, which produces high-performance double-sided adhesive tapes, fastening systems for the automotive industry and reflective films.

"With this expansion, we also created about 50 new jobs in production and development in Hilden." Silvia Perez, president of 3M's Commercial Solutions division, said at the opening conference on October 14.

"The investment in the Hilden site also underlines our intention to serve the global market from the heart of Europe." said Yvonne Mitchell, vice president, Global Lean Value Stream, 3M Commercial Solutions. This global investment is the first step in a "longer term euro investment plan" 3M also said.

The U.S.-based multi-sector group employs 96,000 people worldwide, of which more than 6,600 are in Germany.
