Italy's Sapici joins ink manufacturer Sun Chemical

Sun Chemical is expanding its polymer and laminating adhesive offerings and will allow Sapici to further invest in research and development.

Sun Chemical and its parent company DIC announce that they have acquired Sapici, an Italian-based group founded in 1936 that specializes in high-performance polyurethanes for coatings, flexible packaging, industrial adhesives, inks and other products.

By expanding its offering in the polymer and adhesives market for lamination application, the U.S. manufacturer of printing inks, pigments and other materials is strengthening its integrated supply strategy in the packaging market.

Sapici operates two production sites in Italy (in Milan and Pavia) and one in China (in Zhuhai).
The two groups have been working together since 2017. Sun Chemical and Sapici have partnered to market Sapici's laminating adhesives portfolio under the Sun Chemical trade name, including unique technologies such as ultra-low monomer adhesives.

"Sapici's expertise in manufacturing ultra-low monomer isocyanate solutions will enable Sun Chemical to better meet current and future trends in sustainability, compliance, food contact, health and safety." says Mehran Yazdani, president of Sun Chemical's global packaging and advanced materials unit.

"By joining the Sun Chemical DIC group, we will benefit from the same synergy in all market segments in which we operate (such as coatings, adhesives, elastomers and sealants)." says Sapici. "Merging with an international group will strengthen our ability to invest in cutting-edge solutions, which will enable our customers to comply with the latest regulations and sustainability goals."
