The Iberian subsidiary of packaging manufacturer DS Smith has installed an EFI Nozomi C18000 Plus led inkjet printer in its Lisbon, Portugal plant.
DS Smith Iberia's 1.80m wide Nozomi C18000 Plus is configured in six colors (CMYK, orange and violet). It allows direct piezo inkjet printing in a single pass on corrugated board. An inline application of primer allows for control of dot gain and ink absorption on the various types of corrugated top sheets.
This new printing machine, presented by the manufacturer last October, will enable it to offer its Spanish and Portuguese customers 100% personalized corrugated packaging with photographic print quality and shorter delivery times, as well as print changes within the same order.
"With the press, we will enjoy print quality equivalent to offset printing technology without the need for lamination, said Jorge Requejo, general manager of DS Smith Iberia. In addition, variable printing is another inalienable competitive advantage of digital printing." And the Nozomi's productivity of up to 75 linear meters/min will reduce time to market.
Nozomi inks are OCC certified for recyclability and repulpability, and Greenguard Gold certified for non-hazardous volatile organic compounds and no vapor recovery.
This Nozomi C18000 Plus is DS Smith Iberia's fourth digital printing machine and the first to use single pass technology.
