Duino de Burgo paper mill changes group and production

The Italian paper mill joining Mondi Group will be converted into a corrugated board production facility by 2025.

The British group Mondi has finalized the acquisition of the Italian plant of Duino, located near Trieste, from the Burgo group for a sum of 40 million euros. This external growth was announced last August .

The Duino mill currently has a paper machine that produces lightweight coated mechanical paper for gravure and web offset printing (LWC and MWC). The paper and packaging manufacturer will convert this line to produce 420,000 tons of recycled corrugated board "high quality at a competitive price" he says. Production on the modified machine is expected to start in 2025 and reach full capacity by 2027.

"The plant is ideally located to source paper for recycling, supply the group's corrugated solutions plants in Central Europe and Turkey, as well as to serve the growing local Italian market, indicated last October during the group's quarterly review. This project gives us the opportunity to grow our packaging business, build on our integrated platform and expand our geographic reach."

Mondi, which employs 21,000 people in 100 locations in 30 countries, continues to explore new investment opportunities to meet the growing demand for sustainable packaging solutions.
