VPK expands into Italy and strengthens its offering

By acquiring a majority stake in the Italian company Zetacarton, VPK completes its Fit2size fanfold board offer.

Belgian group VPK has signed an agreement to acquire a majority stake in Zetacarton, a corrugated board specialist based in Senna Comasco in northern Italy.

But why is a group with sales of 2.1 billion euros for 2022, 60 sites worldwide and 7,500 employees worldwide, interested in a company with 110 employees and sales of 75 million euros?
While this majority shareholding gives the recycled paper packaging manufacturer its first foothold in Italy, it also strengthens its position in fanfold corrugated board, one of Zetacarton's specialties.

Fanfold cardboard makes it possible to manufacture packaging to exact dimensions, while eliminating empty space and the need for dunnage.

The VPK Group produces this type of packaging at its Alizay site in Normandy, France, and recently equipped it with a Universal Unifold 220 high-speed line to meet rising demand driven by e-commerce and logistics. And last year, VPK launched the Fit2size brand for these packaging solutions.

Zetacarton is a specialist in the manufacture of printed fanfold packaging. Last September, it acquired a new machine for single-pass inkjet printing on corrugated board.

The acquisition of a majority shareholding in Zetacarton will enable the VPK Group to complete its range of fanfold products and extend the geographical coverage of this type of packaging. With this takeover, VPK states " continue to invest in sustainable growth and develop its European value-added and vertically-integrated business model".
