It took several hours to bring the fire at VPK Paper Normandie under control. The fire started in a forklift truck and spread to several reels of paper.

A few days after the fire at the CPI Bussière printing works in the Cher region of France a new disaster has struck the graphics industry. This time it was VPK Paper Normandie, located in Alizay in the Eure department, which was engulfed in flames.

Fire brought under control after several hours of intervention

According to the newspaper Paris Normandie the fire is believed to have originated from a forklift truck. The fire then attacked several reels of paper. The alarm was sounded at around 7.30pm. Given the scale of the incident, some forty firefighters were mobilized. The aim was to prevent the fire spreading to the recycled paper mill, formerly the Double A plant, which will belong to the Belgian VPK group in 2021.

The rescue operation lasted several hours, continuing until 2 a.m. on Wednesday March 5.

Material damage but no injuries

According to information reported by Actu.fr, the fire, although spectacular, caused no casualties.

The company was able to resume operations at 5am.

Last year, in May, another fire had occurred on a conveyor belt. 500 kilos of paper were destroyed.
