Belgian VPK, a specialist in recycled paper-based packaging, continues to expand in Italy with the acquisition of Open Imballaggi, a Calcinate-based company specializing in corrugated board packaging. This operation joins the Italian sites of Zetacarton and IEMME, already integrated into the Group.
Founded in 1988 by Guido Marsetti, Open Imballaggi continues a family tradition dating back to 1908. The company employs around 70 people and operates a 22,000 m 2 recently modernized, with the installation of a new 6-color rotary die-cutter at a cost of 7 million euros. Its annual capacity reaches 40 million m 2 30 million in sales to the food, cosmetics, e-commerce and automotive sectors.
With this acquisition, VPK strengthens its industrial presence in Lombardy, one of Europe's most dynamic regions for the packaging sector. Open Imballaggi's geographic positioning complements that of the Group's other units in Italy, with synergies in production and distribution.
Based in Belgium and active since 1935, VPK Group today employs over 7,500 people at 70 sites in 21 countries. With sales of 2 billion euros, the Group is developing an industrial model based on vertical integration: paper production, corrugated converting and custom packaging.
