After printing inks, paper. Sappi also announces a price increase in Europe. Its range of woodfree coated (WFC) paper sheets will see prices increase by 50 euros per ton, from March 16, 2026.
The Johannesburg, South Africa-based papermaker justifies the increase as follows: "In recent months, market prices for wood-free coated sheets have fallen sharply, driven by weak demand and strong competition. This decline has pushed selling prices down to levels that no longer reflect the industry's real costs."
And the papermaker warns: "Given the persistent mismatch between market prices and structural costs, this increase is a first step towards restoring a sustainable price level. If cost pressures persist, further price adjustments may be necessary to ensure long-term supply stability and maintain the quality of our services."
The group, which employs nearly 12,000 people, also stresses the need to preserve the financial viability of its operations in order to maintain a high level of supply "reliable" over time.
