Koenig & Bauer brings flexo printing to the fore. At its Technology Days held in Würzburg, Germany, on April 21 and 22, the manufacturer brought together some 170 packaging professionals, converters, partners and brands to demonstrate its new products under production conditions.
The highlight of the event was the CI XD Pro flexo press. Installed in the technology center, this central-drum machine produced, in front of the guests, a variety of packaging, from doypacks to fibrous substrates. All prints were produced in Extended Colour Gamut (ECG).

For the first time, Koenig & Bauer presented this press combined with the EasyTronic CI Flexo function. EasyTronic CI Flexo automates strip threading throughout the machine, including the mechanically complex CI section. The system uses a heat-resistant single-sided belt to automatically guide the belt through the entire path. Koenig & Bauer claims time savings of up to 80% compared with conventional systems.
Guests were also able to discover the RotaJET for folding carton. A comparative demonstration showcased the two technologies to illustrate how they can be used together, depending on production volumes and constraints.
Koenig & Bauer also showed how converters could offer connected packaging. All printed products featured Auraveo functionalities. Auraveo integrates digital interaction, traceability, product information and regulatory communication. The role of connected packaging was further explored in a presentation by Thomas Vollmuth, Head of Brand Management and Marketing Activation for the Auraveo platform at Koenig & Bauer.
The German manufacturer also presented its support tools, including DataGlass. This system of connected glasses with instantaneous translation is designed to facilitate exchanges between operators and remote experts, with support available around the clock.
