Avery Dennison Introduces Label Liners Recycling in Europe

This system is intended to be simple, effective and not expensive.

US manufacturer of labelling solutions and functional materials Avery Dennison launches AD Circular, a complete label liner recycling system in Europe. AD Circular will be available in France and Belgium in the first half of 2021.

"Companies in Europe consumed some 470?000 tonnes of label backings in 2019, but just over a third were recycled." says Burak Sahbaz, Director of Marketing and Sustainable Development. "Businesses, like consumers, recycle when it's easy and affordable. So we've made it as simple and economical as possible."

How to use the AD service Circular?? You must first register online on the program's website. Avery Dennison then provides cardboard boxes to be filled with used label holders.
Then, on the AD Circular smartphone application, the printer plans for the backs to be picked up by one of Avery Dennison's partners.

The costs of collecting and transporting backings will be comparable to those of label media disposal services. "Depending on where you are and how much label stock you have, this service may even cost you less." emphasizes the producer.
All label materials from all manufacturers are accepted. Recycled liners will be used for new packaging materials and other products.

"Companies use our application to schedule a pickup and we'll take care of everything else: collection, transportation, recycling, the paperwork part and regulatory compliance." sums up Burak Sahbaz.

The mobile application also displays various data on the amount of recycled backing materials, CO2 emissions avoided, etc..

With this program, Avery Dennison aims to recycle the equivalent of 75% of its label waste from the marketplace by 2025. And the manufacturer wants to eventually convert used liners into new label materials.
