Sale of printed matter to safeguard Philippe Miennée's typographic workshop

The printer based in Brittany has had to stop the events business, which is unlikely to resume for several months.

To resist the coronavirus crisis and the cessation of some of its activities, Philippe Miennée's typographic workshop in Morbihan launched a collection on the KissKissBankBank participatory financing platform.

In return for their donations, contributors receive printed cards, postcards, collages, books, or portfolios of prints or etchings.

The cessation of event activities and the possibilities of diffusion of the works

With the coronavirus crisis and containment, the event activity of the Workshops had to be stopped overnight and will probably not be able to resume for months, explains Philippe Miennée

" ?En effect we need a boost, the workshop exists by its editions. The problem is that it is financed by the workshops I run in media libraries, art centres and other places. But with the confinement, all the workshops have been cancelled, so the printing and publishing projects are on hold due to lack of means.?»

At the same time, all possibilities for disseminating the works of published artists are also weakened or cancelled," he continues.

Realizations usually sold at trade fairs

The proposed counterparties are realizations that should have been sold at the cancelled trade fairs. Philippe Miennée specifies that the money collected will make it possible to pay the current bills and to finance the editions projects that are waiting. Good news for the printer, with about ten days to go before the end of the collection, the objective is almost reached.

It was after studying graphic arts in Belgium and gaining professional experience in printing in Lille that Philippe Miennée opened his typographic printing shop at the Forges de Lanouée in the Morbihan region. He specialises in the printing of original prints, woodcuts, linocuts, silkscreen prints and in the printing of short texts in typography (manual composition). So, also in artist's books.

Before the Covid-19 crisis, Philippe Miennée had planned to invest in a Linotype type machine in order to be able to meet the needs of poets wishing to publish books at a reasonable price in typography.
