Creation of Celab, the global organisation dedicated to label recycling

The self-adhesive label industry is organizing to find better ways to recycle its waste.

More than 30 companies in the label industry today announced the creation of a new organization called Celab for Circular Economy for Labels. The consortium aims to create greater circularity of its products by improving the recycling or reuse of label dies and coatings worldwide.

Due to the great diversity of production processes and recycling capacities, Celab is divided into regional organisations, headed by the International Steering Committee. Currently, two branches are in place: Celab-Europe and Celab-North America.

75% of liners and matrices recycled or reused by 2025

Celab-Europe already has more than 20 industry players, including labelstock suppliers Arconvert-Ritrama, Avery Dennison, Herma, Mondi and UPM Raflatac, as well as the European pressure sensitive labelling industry association Finat, which will host the organization.

Celab-Europe wants to develop a business model that will enable more than 75% of the liners and matrices used in Europe to be recycled or reused by 2025.

The consortium remains open to all companies in the self-adhesive label supply chain that are willing to support this objective.
