Durst continues to expand its label printing business with the acquisition of the Dutch company MPS Printing.

Less than ten months after its relaunch, MPS Printing is changing hands once again. The Italian manufacturer of digital printing systems, Durst Group, will acquire the holding company of the Dutch manufacturer of flexographic and hybrid presses for labels and flexible packaging. The transaction will take effect on January 1, 2027, subject to regulatory approvals and customary closing conditions.

MPS will become MPS %E2euros%93 A Durst Group Company. The development, manufacturing, and marketing of its current portfolio of flexographic presses will continue. The management team will also remain in place, with Michiel Borst serving as CEO.

MPS, which has approximately 35 employees, has installed more than 850 printing presses in over 100 countries. Its product lineup includes flexographic presses as well as the EF Symjet, a hybrid platform that combines flexography with Domino inkjet technology.

Less than a year after MPS Systems filed for bankruptcy

This acquisition comes after a turbulent period for the Dutch manufacturer. MPS Printing succeeded MPS Systems following the latter's bankruptcy. In November 2025, the company resumed operations following a management buyout led by Richard Miedema, Michiel Borst, Nick Tyrer, and Bert van den Brink, a co-founder of MPS Systems.

The new organization then shifted its focus toward services and recurring revenue, adopting a more selective approach to new press sales while continuing to expand its installed base.

MPS is now part of a much larger organization. Headquartered in Bressanone, Italy, the Durst Group has approximately 1,100 employees, generates more than 430 million euros in revenue, and operates in more than 40 countries with 4,000 installations.

From Tau to MPS, via Omet

The acquisition also expands Durst's portfolio in the labeling sector. The manufacturer already markets its Tau digital presses and, in partnership with the Italian manufacturer Omet, is developing the KJet and XJet, which combine inkjet, flexography, and finishing.

With MPS, Durst will directly integrate flexographic technologies and engineering expertise. "With MPS, we are adding additional expertise, technology, and flexographic engineering capabilities to the group." , confirms Christoph Gamper, CEO and co-owner of the Durst Group.

That leaves the question of how MPS and OMET will coexist. "Our partnership with OMET remains strategically important and continues" ", the executive says. The KJet and XJet will continue to be developed and marketed under the current organizational structure.

MPS Maintains Its Direct Sales in Europe

MPS's direct sales channels will remain in place in Europe. In the United States, Durst US will take over sales and service for the MPS portfolio. Existing contracts and service commitments will remain in effect following the change in ownership.
