The Mondi Ansbach corrugated packaging plant completes its transformation

After an investment of 30 million euros, Mondi Ansbach is increasing its production and expanding into new packaging markets.

Last year, paper and board packaging manufacturer Mondi (7.27 billion euros in sales) announced a 30 million euro investment in its Ansbach plant in southern Germany to increase its corrugated production capacity by 10 percent and to offer new high-strength packaging (read Cardboard to replace shipments in wooden crates with Mondi ). Today, this major project called Ansbach 2020 is almost complete.

New machines, including a new corrugator, a slitter, a shipping line, a waste treatment line and a new intralogistics system were installed. And the old machines have been upgraded, reducing their energy consumption.

"Thanks to this investment, we have been able to broaden our sector expertise to include not only the automotive sector, but also to expand into the construction, sports and leisure sectors, providing quality sustainable packaging products" said Markus Skiba, the site's managing director.

The final touch to the Ansbach 2020 project will be the opening of the Customer Innovation Centre. The centre, which is scheduled to open in 2021, will include a showroom for Mondi products as well as a new research and development area for the design of packaging solutions with reduced environmental impact.
