DS Smith confirms its attraction to digital printing

DS Smith installs a new digital press to offer its customers photographic quality in very short delivery times.

The British cardboard packaging manufacturer DS Smith has just received a UV led inkjet printer for corrugated cardboard, the Nozomi C18000 Plus of EFI. This six-colour press installed at its plant in Lisbon, Portugal, is the fourth digital press that the group is installing in the Iberian Peninsula.

The Nozomi C18000 Plus is a 1.8m wide sheetfed digital inkjet press that achieves print speeds of up to 75 linear metres per minute. The machine chosen by DS Smith is configured in CMYK, plus orange and purple.

"The EFI Nozomi C18000 Plus complements the wide range of current products offered by DS Smith Iberia", says Jorge Requejo, Managing Director of DS Smith Iberia. "It will help our customers to promote their brand by personalizing their packaging and message, adapting to seasonal demand, gaining in responsiveness and impact with one-off promotions, with photographic print quality and in quantities adapted to their needs".
It will also be possible to obtain better product traceability, "a very relevant feature for the e-commerce sector" This is because it is possible to print individual codes on each package, such as QR codes.

It is the second digital press installed in Portugal for the group, which has four cardboard packaging production sites in the country. And it is the first to use single-pass technology.
