Haribo launches the first recyclable doypack on the market

It took two years of research and development to develop this new packaging.

German confectionery manufacturer Haribo is wrapping its iconic Dragibus candy in a recyclable doypack, the first on the confectionery market.

This recyclable, stand-up pouch is the result of two years of research and development. The reclosable packaging is made of a single material, polyethylene (PE), whose manufacture has a carbon energy impact half as great as that of a conventional PET/PE type material.
Once sorted and recycled, polyethylene is used to make agricultural tarpaulins, garbage bags and compost bags.

Pauline Chautard, Haribo France brand manager, explains the difficulty of this new bag: "The challenge was to meet several objectives at the same time: to develop packaging in doypack format that is recyclable, an innovation in the sugar confectionery market, while maintaining the same level of preservation quality and Haribo know-how. In addition, we also wanted to offer our consumers a real novelty: Dragibus did not yet exist in a shareable format"

"Deployed in Haribo boutiques since July 2020 and in supermarkets since the end of December, the first results are very encouraging, she adds. The launch of the first recyclable doypack within the Dragibus range, on our flagship product on the shelf and in the Haribo range, is a key step in our commitment to sustainable development".

Between 2018 and 2025, Haribo has set itself the goal of reducing the plastic in its packaging by 20%. The brand has taken several steps in this direction. In particular, it has reduced the height of its bags, saving 10 tons of plastic in two years.

The use of packaging made of recyclable monomaterial will be rolled out to all Haribo doypacks this year.
