The market for cultural goods on the rise in 2020
According to the market research institute Gfk, "the French have clearly shown their attachment to cultural goods, in a context of general restrictions on access to living leisure".
Revenues from the cultural goods market - books, music, gaming and video - posted a sixth consecutive year of growth, with +4% (9.6 billion euros).
However, there are disparities between sectors. The Gaming universe is the big winner of the year 2020, carried by both consoles and games. The Book universe remains the leading market in terms of value, but is down 3% due to the four-month closure of its physical points of sale.
And for the first time this year, the three cultural goods that sold the most (in number of physical copies) were video games. Books remain very well represented with eight titles in the Top 20, including the Goncourt prize.
1 billion at 3M to reduce its environmental impact
The American group 3M (32.8 billion dollars in sales) will invest nearly 1 billion dollars over 20 years to reduce its ecological impact.
The group, which produces self-adhesive films for the graphic arts industry, among others, aims to halve its CO2 emissions by 2030 and achieve carbon neutrality by 2050. It is also committed to reducing its water consumption by 25% by 2030 and to improving the quality of water discharged into the environment after its use in production.
As part of the ongoing evaluation of its production sites, 3M will ensure, starting this year, that all its sites are among the best in terms of reducing emissions produced during production operations.
Ecodesign increasingly integrated into corporate strategies
The French Environment and Energy Management Agency (Ademe) has published the results of its survey on the practices and positions of French companies with regard to ecodesign.
This report reveals that the majority of the panel companies, of various sizes and sectors, have integrated DfE into their strategy.
More than one in five companies (21%) apply the ecodesign approach across their entire portfolio of products placed on the market. "This approach has many environmental, financial, image, technical and organizational performance benefits." emphasizes the agency.
And according to this study, the personal motivation of the manager is crucial (64%) to initiate this process, as is the need to anticipate future regulations (40%), especially for companies with more than 50 employees.
Advertisers misled by the potential reach of ads on Facebook??
Facebook is said to have deliberately inflated the reach of its network's advertisements for several years. In 2018, companies took the matter to the U.S. courts. The case is now making headlines in the international press, with the release last week of several legal documents. These documents, internal emails, would show that executives of the platform knew that the potential audience of advertising campaigns (Potential Reach) was overestimated. This overestimation would come in particular from false accounts and duplicates.
The Californian group retaliated by assuring that the Potential Reach had never been used to bill advertisers.
In 2020, Facebook had nearly $86 billion in sales (+22%), with a net profit of $29 billion (+58%).
