Newsreader, the free Google Fonts font for extended reading

Google's open source fonts catalogue is enriched with a font specially adapted to long screen reading.

Jean-Baptiste Levée's French foundry, Production Type, unveils its latest creation, Newsreader, an open source serif font commissioned by Google Fonts, Google's open source font service. The serif font has been specifically designed for long screen reading.

"Imagining the needs and desires of readers of streaming news and publishing platforms, we designed a family that could be sleek, stable, contemporary and bookish, all without losing personality." explains Hugues Gentile, artistic director of this project.

Production Type has created the Newsreader family which includes 42 styles, including three optical sizes (caption, text and display) and seven weights.

Google Fonts contains over a thousand font families and APIs licensed free for use with CSS and Android. They can be used freely in products and projects, whether print or digital, commercial or otherwise, but not simply sold as fonts.
