The Bobst Inventor Award highlights each year the innovative work of one of the Group's employees.

Matthieu Richard, Bobst's chief engineer in charge of optoelectronic systems development and an expert in optics, received the Bobst Inventor Award for developing the embossing detection technology. This technology is now integrated into the Swiss manufacturer's Accucheck inline inspection system.

Since 2020, the manufacturer of equipment for the label and packaging industries has annually recognized one of its employees who has developed a technological innovation and strengthened the group's intellectual property portfolio with the Bobst Inventor Award.

The jury, composed of members of the management team, evaluates the patented inventions according to their commercial value for Bobst and its customers, their technological advances and their capacity to be commercialized. The prize, symbolically awarded to one person, rewards the work of an entire research and development team.

Sigrid Wagner, Director of Intellectual Property for the Group and Chair of the Bobst Inventor Award Selection Committee, explains about Matthieu Richard's invention: "The embossing detection solution was a first for the market, and is a true innovation that offers an unparalleled level of measurement accuracy, and allows our customers to consistently achieve defect-free packaging."

This image capture technology controls a structure in relief and determines the precise position and can be applied to a wide variety of different substrates, whether on a matte, glossy, lacquered or metalized surface, Bobst emphasizes.

Upon receiving his award, Matthieu Richard said: "I am thrilled to receive this award and to have my work recognized in this way. It is a testament to the creativity of my team members, who helped me develop the embossing detection technology and helped make it a success for our customers and for Bobst."
