Production optimization is a major challenge for packaging manufacturers. Stora Enso Packaging, the corrugated packaging division of the Stora Enso Group, has undertaken a transformation of its tools and methods in collaboration with Swiss manufacturer Bobst. By integrating connectivity solutions, Stora Enso Packaging reports significant improvements in productivity and equipment management.
At two of its Swedish sites in Skene and Jönköping, the Finnish manufacturer has implemented the Bobst Connect platform, a real-time production management tool that centralizes critical machine data for more efficient decision-making.
The Skene and Jönköping sites work together to produce corrugated packaging for consumer, transport and ready-to-sell applications. The Jönköping plant is equipped with two Mastercut 2.1 die-cutting presses and two Bobst Masterflex flexo post-printing machines.
98% machine availability
What are the results after a year and a half of use? The integration of Bobst Connect has led to a 4.4% increase in production capacity and a 3.3% improvement in overall efficiency.
Machine availability reached 98.5%, a result considered to be "excellent" by Fredrik Wiell, Maintenance Manager at Stora Enso Packaging.
This increase in availability is due in particular to fewer machine stoppages and better waste management.
In addition to digitization, the partnership also includes customized training to enhance operators' skills. Stora Enso has invested in several programs tailored to its specific needs, as well as in the Bobst Maintenance Plus program, guaranteeing proactive follow-up and assistance to maintain high performance.
