Death of Lascelle Barrow, emblematic figure of Fespa
The Federation of European Screen, Digital and Textile Printing Associations, Fespa, sadly announces the death of Lascelle Barrow, honorary board member and former president of the organization, on May 22, 2025 at the age of 79.
A major player in the association's transformation for more than thirty years, notably presiding over Fespa from 1992 to 1996 and from 2013 to 2015, Lascelle Barrow notably drove the event's digital shift with the creation of Fespa Digital in 2006, and contributed to its international expansion.
According to Fespa, Lascelle Barrow will remain a point of reference for the entire global printing community, and plans to organize tributes to the deceased.
Caldera launches PrimeCenter 4.1
Caldera announces the availability of PrimeCenter 4.1, an update to its prepress automation solution for large-format print providers. This new version improves layout management and introduces indicators such as surface coverage and length, enabling better control of material optimization.
It also incorporates a new cutting driver compatible with the M&R Quatro X/Y cutter, targeting direct-to-film (DTF) applications in particular. On the file control side, a new unified profile centralizes essential checks (resolution, color gamut, fonts), with fully customizable options.
Finally, PrimeCenter 4.1 features automatic generation of CSV reports for each file processed, facilitating production tracking and data integration into third-party tools.
Diam expands its Thai site with a new plant
Fine Packaging Manufacturers (FPM), a subsidiary of the French Diam Group, has just completed two new industrial buildings in Chonburi, south of Bangkok. This extension brings the operating area of the site to 14âeuros¯000âeuros¯m², dedicated to the production of jewel cases for the watchmaking, jewelry and spirits industries, and now employs 350 people.

The Diam Group, on which FPM depends, employs 3âeuros¯200 people in 20 countries and operates 30 plants worldwide.
Stora Enso sells its forests to pay off its debts
On May 21, 2025, paper group Stora Enso announced the sale of 175,000 hectares of forest in Sweden, representing 12.4% of its forest area in the country. The transaction, with an enterprise value of 900 million euros, is intended to reduce the debt of the group, which has sales of 9 billion euros. However, it will retain a 15% stake in the new entity.
The acquiring consortium is made up of Soya Group (40.6%) and Munich Re's asset manager MEAG (44.4%). A renewable 15-year wood supply contract has been signed with the new structure, guaranteeing Stora Enso continuity of flow for its Swedish units. The Group will also continue to provide forest management services.
"By strategically monetizing a portion of our forestry assets while retaining full access to wood supply, we are taking a proactive step to reduce our debt." said Hans Sohlström, President and CEO of Stora Enso, which employs 19,000 people.
Completion of the transaction, subject to approval by the competition authorities, is expected in the third quarter of 2025.
Typologie Vert: a typographic color chart published by Recto Verso
Paris-based graphic studio Recto Verso publishes Typology Green its new pantone entirely devoted to typography. This edition is dedicated to German typography.
The book brings together a selection of 100 fonts, divided into six main families (serif, sans serif, display, monospace, script and expressive). Each typeface is accompanied by a pantone sheet detailing its technical and stylistic features. Erik Spiekermann, typographer and professor at Bremen University of the Arts, wrote the foreword, and Carmi Grau, aka SuperNiceLetters, who has over 100,000 followers on social networks, created exclusive lettering for the cover of the color chart.
Designed as a reference tool, this color chart is aimed at graphic designers, typographers and art directors wishing to refine their choice of fonts.
