Securing pharmaceutical packaging from counterfeiting

To discourage attempts at illegal copying or unauthorized use, high-tech security labels protect your medications.

In order to fight against the grey market of medicines, the European directive 2011/62/EU recommends to manufacturers the implementation of solutions guaranteeing a reinforced anti-counterfeiting traceability and security. This standard includes unitary marking and packaging protected by tamper evident labels.
For example, VOID labels leave a trace or message of product handling.

A design that is difficult to imitate

Printers supplying the pharmaceutical industry do not hesitate to create partnerships with specialized Track & Trace companies to produce these different authentication options:

? encryption of control data by datamatrix
? serialization
? latent image(s) insertion and thermochromic inks
? high strength
? partial laser or luminescent etchable coating
? cutting lines on the label
? MicroWire indicator undetectable to the naked eye
? microscopic marking

This regulation, costly to implement but necessary, is aimed primarily at prescription drugs, but also those sold over the counter in traditional pharmacies or online. In addition to product compliance, the patient also benefits from access to information without contact with the packaging, by scanning the QR code with his or her smartphone: the components are listed to restrict any allergic reaction and certify their origin.

The drug distribution circuit is highly regulated in France. If some of these securities are used on the territory, they are mainly intended for the European market, where each country has its own legislation system.

Traceability is improved by progressively replacing barcodes by the integration of an RFID chip directly on the label, allowing blind identification, especially during container transports.

In addition to the pharmaceutical market, these safety features for consumers and manufacturers extend to various sectors such as cosmetics, luxury goods or food.
