Graphic Packaging is expanding its ProducePack range of carton packaging with a new folding carton tray presented as an innovative alternative to trays for fresh fruit and vegetables. Available in all of the most commonly used tray sizes, the product is fully recyclable with a 90% or 100% reduction in plastic depending on the configuration. Elodie Bugnicourt, sustainability manager at Graphic Packaging International, explains:
"Compared to polypropylene or polyester trays, the ProducePack tray offers a 90% reduction in plastic, and a 100% reduction if a barrier coating is not required for the application. It should provide a reduced carbon footprint compared to standard plastic trays and much greater circularity, with a recycling rate for flatboard about twice that of plastic, in most countries.»
Minimal investment for packers who want to switch to the folding carton
The US manufacturer says the ProducePack tray can be sealed at speeds equivalent to traditional plastic trays. The solution is compatible with existing equipment and tooling for plastic trays. For packers looking to make the transition to flat-pack, this means minimal investment.
