The HP PageWide T700i, the digital rotary press for cardboard with many possibilities

This new 6-color rotary digital press that reaches 300 m/min is designed for pre-printing but also for printing folding carton in sheet form.

At Corrugated Week 2022, held September 19-21 in San Antonio, Texas, HP unveiled a new digital roll-to-roll platform developed with German manufacturer Koenig & Bauer, the HP PageWide T700i high-volume press.

This 1.7-m (67-inch) high-volume press is positioned in the PageWide web press lineup between the other two machines, the T470S, a 1.5-m (60-inch) small- and medium-volume press, and the T1195i, a 2.8-m (110-inch) high-volume machine.

"Greater flexibility" to meet the market

Like these two other models, the HP PageWide T700i is designed for pre-printing corrugated board (before it is fed into the corrugator or for conventional lamination). But this machine is also designed to print folding carton. "One press, many possibilities" summarizes HP.

"We listened to our customers' needs and studied the market to design the T700i press, explains Annette Friskopp, general manager of HP PageWide Industrial. Now more than ever, converters need greater flexibility to meet changing market trends and challenges, and digital packaging continues to fundamentally transform the high-volume packaging supply chain."

This six-color, water-based digital web press handles coated, uncoated, brown kraft and recycled packaging papers. It can be configured according to specific customer and market needs, thanks to numerous inline options such as priming, coating and recipe in roll or sheet format. Some configurations can reach 300 m/min.

"The HP T700i press provides customers with production cost savings and shorter turnaround times and allows them to pursue higher value print jobs."

The new press will feature HP's next generation of thermal inkjet printheads. This new series of inkjet heads, according to HP, delivers offset-like print quality at high speeds for graphic-intensive packaging. Up to 91 percent of Pantone colors are reproducible with the press' six-color (CMYK + OV) printing.

The PageWide HP T700i, the second platform developed with Koenig & Bauer

The HP PageWide T700i Press is the second press platform built in collaboration with German manufacturer Koenig & Bauer, the first machine being the HP PageWide T1100S Press launched in 2015 (which was replaced by the HP PageWide T1170, T1190 and then T1195i).

"Koenig & Bauer is one of the world's leading manufacturers of conventional presses, with more than 200 years of experience in press engineering and the development of innovative solutions that meet customers' quality expectations, appreciates Christoph Müller, member of the board of directors of Koenig & Bauer. Along with HP's leadership and innovation in thermal inkjet technology, the HP PageWide T700i Press has been developed to again combine our technology expertise and provide packaging converters with unprecedented flexibility and consistent quality."

The first installations of this new digital press are scheduled for the end of 2023.
