What is the new Twitter font?

This typeface by Grilli Type is the first font specifically designed for the social network.

Twitter changed its font on August 11. The social network with the blue bird now uses Chirp. Designed by the Swiss foundry Grilli Type, Chirp is the first proprietary font of Twitter. Until now, the font varied according to the media used by Internet users, from SF Pro and Roboto, to Helvetica Neue.

The Chirp typeface was introduced in January and was used occasionally in videos, posters or banners. This new typeface of 82 styles in standard and titling should make the site and the application more readable and easier to use.

Chirp is "flexible and expressive, bold, agile and fun, reflecting the voices that make Twitter." Leslie Berland, marketing director and head of human resources at Twitter, explained earlier this year. She finds "the balance between clutter and precision to amplify the fun and irreverence of a Tweet, but it can also carry the weight of seriousness if necessary." says the California-based company on its blog.
"To achieve this, we blended American Gothic and European grotesque styles, adding artisanal specifics from early woodcut specimens . This makes for a versatile and contemporary family with international sensibilities."

The colors of the Twitter.com site have also been changed, they are more contrasted and blue is much less present on the site. These changes should help to draw attention to the photos and videos shared.
