Spain's Saica to conquer America with $800 million investment

Saica's future corrugated board production plant in the United States

"Our extensive knowledge of low-weight recycled paper production and the increased demand for cartons make it an ideal time to enter the U.S. market," says the group executive.

Saica will invest $800 million (about 680 million euros) in the U.S. market over the next five years through acquisitions and the construction of new plants, it announced.

The Spanish-based group had already announced last year the launch of its first corrugated packaging plant on US soil, in Hamilton, Ohio. The site of approximately 28,000 m 2 is expected to open early next year and create 500 jobs. It will include manufacturing, processing and production areas, as well as warehouse and office space.

The group specializes in the manufacture of recycled paper for corrugated board, waste management, production of corrugated board packaging and flexible packaging,

"The journey to the U.S. market has not been an easy road, but we are confident that we can offer products that will differentiate us in a crowded market, said in a statement the president of the group Ramón Alejandro. We were encouraged by the tremendous support we received when we began work on our Hamilton, Ohio facility."

"We believe our extensive knowledge of low-weight recycled paper production and the increased demand for paperboards make this an ideal time to enter the U.S. market." he added.

Saica employs more than 10,000 people, mainly in Europe, and has sales of ?2,821 million for the year 2020 through its four business units: the manufacture of recycled paper for corrugated board (with Saica Paper), waste management and environmental services (Saica Natur), the production of corrugated board packaging (Saica Pack) and the production of flexible packaging (Saica Flex).
