FedLab, Fedrigoni's innovation hub on the plastic-to-paper transition front

The new paper-based solutions will be presented at the next two international luxury packaging trade shows.

The Italian producer of specialty papers and self-adhesive materials Fedrigoni has opened an innovation center, called FedLab, which already has several innovative solutions under its belt.

FedLab is designed to develop solutions in various applications, "on the plastic to paper transition front" says Micaela Di Trana, director of the initiative and vice president of marketing and R&D at Fedrigoni Paper. "This transition is about introducing new paper solutions to create alternatives to plastic that are effective in terms of strength, waterproofing and hygiene." she explains.

FedLab brings together the technological know-how of Fedrigoni and other partners - be they universities or companies - to develop innovative products, applications and business solutions.

Among these new solutions created at FedLab, the FedLab director cites Icelite CleanCut, a paper developed in collaboration with Easysnap. Icelite CleanCut replaces single-dose plastic liquid packaging with a paper-based solution that can be opened with one hand and is fully recyclable.
Micaela Di Trana also gives as an example the Splendorgel High Barrier technology, a water resistant and fully recyclable paper.

The new products developed at FedLab will be presented at the luxury packaging trade shows Luxe Pack in Monaco from September 27 to 29, and Packaging Première, at the Pavilion of Contemporary Art in Milan, Italy from October 5 to 7.
