Hachette UK, a subsidiary of the French group and the second largest British publishing group, acquired Paperblanks on January 14, 2022. Paperblanks is the world's second largest brand of notebooks, diaries, journals and premium stationery after Moleskine.
"Hachette Livre is a publishing group that has taken positions for several years in territories related to the world of books, such as booklets, mobile games or, more recently, board games, explains Fabrice Bakhouche, Deputy Managing Director of the Hachette Livre group. The acquisition of Paperblanks, the world's number 2 in the high-end stationery market, is fully in line with this diversification strategy."
In August 2020, Hachette UK acquired Laurence King Publishing, one of the world's leading publishers of creative arts books and gifts.
Paperblanks, founded in Vancouver, Canada, is primarily in the high-end segment of the stationery industry. The company's products are packaged in creative concepts around different themes from literature, science or music. Paperblanks also works with global co-branding partnerships, such as the New York Public Library system. The publishing house also has licensing agreements with prestigious cultural institutions, including the British Library and the Van Gogh Museum. The company's production is carried out in China.
